Agricultural Co-operatives today (BĂĽtschelegg, near Bern)

The BĂĽtschelegg, half an hour journey by coach from Bern, is a lovely hill with a gorgeous view towards the Bernese Oberland mountains. Besides a restaurant (run by a family of Tamils) at the top of the hill, the BĂĽtschelegg also accommodates a horse-breeding co-operative. Part of the excursion will be a short introduction and visual illustration of today's co-operative movement in the agricultural sector in Switzerland.

Rural crafts, trades and architecture: museum Ballenberg (Brienz)
Price: CHF 80.00 (transport; entrance, craft-demonstration and conference dinner)
This open air museum in the Bernese Oberland, one hour journey by coach from Bern, contains more than a hundred old buildings from all over rural Switzerland as well as 250 farmyard animals. Together with the gardens, fields and wood they create a vivid impression of rural life in days gone by. This show-dairy in Affoltern in the Emmental, the beautiful hilly region south-east of Bern, provides an insight into how the original Emmentaler cheese, the one with the large holes, is produced today.
